Archimedes is the largest crater within the Mare

Imbrium. The Mare Imbrium is a vast area

 created when lava flooded the giant crater

 made when a large object impacted this area

of the moon long ago.

Archimedes diameter of 83km and 2.1km deep

Mare Imbrium's diameter of 1123km.
