The California Nebula is so named because it appears

to resemble the outline shape of the California state. It was

 originally discovered by E. E. Barnard in 1884.

It is illuminated by the hot blue-white star (X1 Persei bottom left).

It is located 1,000 light years away & is a 100 light years long.

California Nebula has a magnitude (brightness) of 6.0

The entire nebula size is 145'.0
